Tooth Loss and All on 4 Dental Implant Procedures near Elmhurst

The loss of some of your teeth can alter your smile, interfere with your ability to chew and digest your food, effect your speech and even lead to other health problems. The Periodontic Association of America estimates that about 175 million Americans have lost one or more teeth, and that number is likely to grow. The traditional solution for multiple tooth loss was conventional dentures. These, of course, remain in use today, but they can slip, alter your speech, cause discomfort, and aren’t always up to the challenge of biting and chewing every food an individual might want to enjoy.

Today, however, there is a permanent tooth replacement solution referred to as the “All-on-4” which provides a superior solution to conventional dentures. This state-of-the-art technology offers a cost-effective and streamlined treatment to restore a person’s smile, ability to speak with confidence, and ability to properly chew and taste foods due to the roof of the mouth not being covered by the prosthesis like with a conventional denture.

Why choose Guzaitis Dental Group for your All-on-4 dental implants?

All on 4 dental implants allow the patient to receive a permanent denture even in cases of jaw atrophy.

The patient receives four implants, depending on the situation 5 or 6 implants may be necessary. The implants provide sufficient support to hold a permanent denture in place. The denture itself is screwed into the implants so that is becomes a permanent prosthesis as opposed to a removable denture.

The All on 4 procedure typically allows the patient to receive the implants and a provisional denture in a single session. The denture provides 70% more biting power than removable dentures, eliminates worry about slippage, and allows patients to eat all their favorite foods. Moreover, because the denture is permanent, cleanings will be done in the office approximately two times a year so the implants and prosthesis can be checked and cleaned.  Regular dental maintenance still needs to be done at home.

“The environment at Guzaitis Dental Group is very friendly, makes me feel natural like I’m at home and I just want to thank them for finally giving me a nice clean looking smile.”

What are All on 4 Dental Implants?

All on 4 dental implants provide the patient with a complete upper or lower arch of permanent non-removable replacement teeth using only four implants. This dental surgery is minimally invasive and has a 98% success rate. The All on 4 gives the patient a full set of teeth that look and function like healthy natural teeth. The denture is attached to the implants, something that can generally be accomplished on the same visit when the implants are put in place.

Who Should Consider All on 4 Dental Implants?

All on 4 dental implants are well worth considering if a person wears conventional dentures, is missing multiple teeth, or has severe problems with their own teeth. All on 4 dental implants are also likely to prove an excellent choice for a patient who lacks the bone density to support a complete set of individual tooth implants, the time to get them all placed, or enough money to pay for them. All on 4 dental surgery is quicker and less expensive.

What is the All on 4 Dental Implant Process?

  • Dental consult with one our experienced Prosthodontists.
  • Records – the patient receives a detailed examination that includes consulting records, determining whether the patient currently has a denture, what the facial structure needs are, what the existing conditions are, and looking at any other factors that could affect the implantation.
  • The patient receives CT scans of the jawbone. This step yields three-dimensional images that show the dentist where the implants should be placed and where nerves and bone sinuses are located. Stent or surgical guide is made through computer simulation for upcoming surgery.
  • Implants are placed during an appointment at the surgeon’s office. Next, the new provisional denture will be placed if indicated, the implants for upper and lower arches can be placed at the same time with the procedure taking approximately three and a half hours per arch.
  • Healing time for approximately 6 months so allow implants to integrate with patient’s bone. From this point steps will be taken to deliver the final permanent denture.

Additional Benefits of All on 4 Dental Implants

As already mentioned, unlike conventional dentures, All on 4 dental implants and dentures won’t slip or interfere with speech. Due to the open palette that exists with the All on 4 denture patient has greater ability to taste foods. Patient will have teeth that resemble natural teeth.  The dental implants also prevent bone deterioration in the jaw and even help restore facial features by fighting resorption.

Alternatives and Potential Drawbacks to All on 4 Dental Implants

Though four implants provide support, it may well be that five to eight will provide significantly more, and this may be the option that Guzaitis Dental Group recommends. If the jawbone has atrophied, it is possible a bone graft can restore lost tissue. Patients should also understand that All on 4 dental implants replace what were fourteen natural root systems with just four points of support. Only a highly competent dental professional like Guzaitis Dental Group’s prosthodontists can properly evaluate all the variables and guide you to the optimal treatment.
